Kathmandu BernHardt Secondary School successfully concluded BernHardtMUN 2026, a three-day Model United Nations programme held from 18–20 September 2026, providing students with an engaging platform to explore international relations, diplomacy, human rights, negotiation and global affairs.
The programme brought together students in a simulated United Nations environment where they represented different countries, researched international issues, presented national positions, participated in structured debates, negotiated with fellow delegates and worked collaboratively toward possible solutions to complex global challenges.
Designed as an experiential learning initiative, BernHardtMUN connected classroom knowledge with practical skills, encouraging students to think critically, communicate confidently, understand diverse perspectives and engage constructively with complex global issues.
A Meaningful Inauguration
The programme formally commenced with an inaugural ceremony attended by the school’s leadership, faculty members, organizers and participating students. Chairman Mr. Bhupesh Chhatkuli , Principal Mr. Purushottam Bista , Managing Director Mr. Nab Raj Adhikari jointly inaugurated BernHardtMUN 2026 by lighting the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the beginning of a meaningful journey of learning, dialogue and leadership.
The inauguration set the tone for the three-day programme, emphasizing the importance of providing students with opportunities to step beyond conventional classroom learning and experience practical forms of communication, diplomacy and collaboration.
Inspiring Leadership and Words of Encouragement
Throughout the programme, the school’s leadership highlighted the importance of initiatives such as Model United Nations in developing students beyond academic achievement. Managing Director Mr. Nab Raj Adhikari delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging students to embrace opportunities that challenge them to think beyond conventional boundaries and develop themselves as confident, responsible and globally aware individuals.
His address emphasized the importance of curiosity, critical thinking, communication, leadership and continuous learning in preparing young people for an increasingly interconnected world. He encouraged participants to make meaningful use of platforms such as BernHardtMUN to develop not only their academic knowledge but also the confidence and skills required to engage with real-world challenges.
Similarly, Principal Mr. Purushottam Bista highlighted the significance of Model United Nations in students’ overall development. He emphasized that MUN provides students with valuable opportunities to strengthen their public speaking, research, critical thinking, leadership, teamwork, negotiation and communication skills while helping them develop a broader understanding of international affairs. His remarks reflected the school’s commitment to experiential learning and to creating opportunities where students can apply knowledge, express ideas and learn through active participation.
Five Committees, Diverse Global Issues
BernHardtMUN featured Five committee simulations, providing participants with opportunities to experience different dimensions of the United Nations system. The student act as a delegate of several countries & represent five different committee such as UNEP (United Nation Environment Program), UNSC (United Nation Security Council), UNHRC (United Nation Human Right Council), IPC (International Press Corps), UN Women.
Throughout the programme, delegates researched the policies and perspectives of the countries they represented and presented those positions within the framework of formal diplomatic proceedings. Rather than simply expressing personal opinions, participants were expected to understand and articulate the positions of their assigned countries while engaging in debate, negotiation and consensus-building.
The sessions provided students with opportunities to explore contemporary global issues including human rights, conflict, war, refugee crises and international cooperation.
International Press Conference: Bringing Journalism into MUN
A distinctive feature of BernHardtMUN 2026 was the International Press Conference, which provided students with an opportunity to experience the role of journalists within a diplomatic setting. Selected students took on the responsibility of acting as news reporters, covering the proceedings and engaging directly with delegates through questions and interactions.
The press conference created a dynamic platform where student journalists could observe debates, interview delegates, ask critical questions and report on key developments taking place within the committees. At the same time, delegates had the opportunity to respond to questions and communicate their perspectives beyond the formal committee sessions.
This initiative added another dimension to the MUN experience by connecting diplomacy, journalism and communication, while helping students develop skills in news reporting, interviewing, critical questioning, observation and responsible communication. It also demonstrated how media plays an important role in informing the public and shaping understanding of international discussions and events.
Developing Leadership and Communication Skills
A key objective of BernHardtMUN 2026 was to strengthen students’ leadership, communication, public-speaking, research and critical-thinking abilities.
From committee sessions and moderated discussions to negotiations and collaborative drafting, students were given opportunities to develop skills that extend beyond conventional classroom learning. The programme encouraged participants to listen to differing viewpoints, defend their assigned positions with evidence and communicate their ideas in a structured and respectful manner.
The MUN experience also encouraged students to appreciate the importance of diplomacy, cooperation and consensus-building when addressing complex issues involving different perspectives and interests.
Closing Ceremony and Recognition
The three-day programme concluded with a closing ceremony that celebrated the achievements and participation of the delegates.
During the closing ceremony, Chairman Mr. Bhupesh Chhatkuli delivered an encouraging and reflective speech, appreciating the efforts of the participants and organizers and highlighting the value of such programmes in nurturing students’ confidence, leadership and sense of responsibility.
Certificates were distributed to participating delegates, recognizing their active involvement and commitment throughout the conference. Outstanding performances were also acknowledged through awards including Special Mention, Outstanding Delegate and Best Delegate in the respective committees.
The recognition celebrated students who demonstrated strong preparation, effective communication, constructive participation, diplomatic engagement and leadership throughout the conference.
A Step Towards Global Citizenship
BernHardtMUN 2026 provided students with more than an opportunity to participate in a simulated international conference. It created a learning environment where students could explore global challenges, understand diverse national perspectives and experience the importance of dialogue, negotiation and cooperation.
The programme reinforced the value of experiential education in preparing students to become confident communicators, responsible leaders and informed global citizens.
